What is an approved Family Day Home?

An approved Family Day Home is a monitored home in your community that has been screened by a Family Child Care Agency to provide a safe, healthy, stimulating environment for children to learn and develop.

What is a Family Child Care Agency?

A Family Child Care Agency is contracted by Regional Children’s Services to screen and monitor Family Day Homes and to provide training, support and resources  for Child Care Providers.  Agencies offer a support system to both parents and providers.

Who can use Family Child Care?

Family Day Homes are available to infants, toddlers and pre-school children whose parents are working, attending school or job searching.

How many children is a Provider allowed to care for at once?

A Provider can care for up to 6 children, including her own children. No more than 2 children may be under the age of 2, and not more than 3 children under the age of 3.

What would my child do in a Family Day Home?

Children in Family Day Home’s are offered opportunities to experience a number of age appropriate activities:  story-telling, music, make-believe play, seasonal arts & crafts and outdoor play.  Activities are planned to aid each child in their total development—Social, Emotional, Physical & Intellectual

 

 How Are Day Home Providers Screened?

Providers are required to provide a current Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Search for themselves and any person 18 years or older that resides in the home,  a current First Aid/CPR certificate, a medical certificate that is signed by a doctor and references by non-relatives.  A home safety evaluation has been conducted and evacuation and emergency plans are in place.  There is a 90 day probationary period.

How are the Family Day Homes monitored?

Family Day Homes are monitored by unannounced monthly inspections, and 2 comprehensive safety inspections per year by our agency. They are also inspected by  the Child and Family Services Authority and the Alberta Child Care Accreditation.

How are the Fees Paid?

Fees are paid to Watch Me Grow directly. We accept debit, credit card and cash at the office, as well as pre-authorized credit card           transactions and email transfers.   Child care invoices are given out by the provider and payment is due by the 10th of the month.                Receipts are given for Income Tax by Watch Me Grow.

Is there a Wait List?

Child care spaces are always changing with Family Day Homes, so we do not have a conventional “wait list”. We operate by finding the best fit for the child, family and provider as spaces become available.
